The Stoney Burke Intersectional, inaugrated in 1989, is hosted by UC Berkeley every fall in early October. The regatta's namesake is Stoney Burke, a celebrated campus entertainer and demonstrator whose political ranting’s are enjoyed by scores of Cal students during lunchtime. Since Berkeley is very much about free speech, the regatta was named after him. Now hosted at the Treasure Island Sailing Center, the regatta was hosted in the Berkeley Marina until 2000.
