NEISA Sailors of the Week, Weekend 4, Fall 21


*** Harvey and Lingos-Utley are the NEISA Co-ed Sailors of the Week***

New London, CT – 10/2/21-10/3/21 – Shawn Harvey ’22 and Sonia Lingos-Utley ’22 of Yale University are the NEISA Coed Sailors of the Week after winning A-division at the Danmark Trophy.  The duo propelled the Bulldogs to an overall team win, in an incredibly tight and competitive field and in some very tricky wind and current conditions.  The A-division field featured tight racing, with 8 different teams claiming a race victory in the 12-race series; ultimately, it was the consistency and resiliency of Harvey and Lingos-Utley that proved to be the difference.  Boston College and Harvard rounded out the top 3 overall finishers in the event.

 

***Cowles and Ryan are the NEISA Women Sailors of the Week***

St. Mary’s City, MD –– 10/2/21-10/3/21 – Carmen Cowles ’25 and Meredith Ryan ’23 of Yale University are the NEISA Women’s Sailors of the Week after winning A-division at the Women’s Atlantic Coast Qualifying Regatta hosted by St. Mary’s College this weekend.  The pair from Yale earned first place in a very competitive A-division fleet with consistent scores in challenging light wind conditions, fending off challenges from both Stanford and Dartmouth in the late stages.  The duo’s performance helped lead their team to the overall team win.  Yale captured first place overall, while Stanford placed 2nd and Dartmouth claimed 3rd overall.

 

Congratulations to all the NEISA teams that qualified for Women's ACCs later this fall: Yale, Dartmouth, Boston College, MIT, Coast Guard, Brown, Harvard, and Bowdoin. 

 

Around the District

URI hosted the Moody in beautiful, classic Salt Pond conditions with seabreezes into the upper teens on both days and 17 races! NEISA had a clean sweep of the top nine positions.  Connecticut College won the event convincingly, ahead of the Yale Bulldogs and the Brown Bears.

 

Sacred Heart hosted the SHU trophy that featured guest Dawn Riley, who briefed the sailors on the importance of networking and developing lasting relationships in the sport of sailing.  Fairfield claimed first place, followed by Tufts and Northeastern.

 

Connecticut bested Yale at the Sister Esther Open, hosted by Connecticut College in a new format of racing – 8 races over the course of Saturday.  Student Athletes enjoyed great competition, but also got to spend some time on their respective campuses on Saturday night and Sunday. 

 

Harvard bested MIT by a single point to take victory at the Tufts Invite, sailed on Mystic Lake.
